Using ambow .net and J2EE multi-layer platform architecture, Ambow
has developed its own proprietary software and technology solutions
that enable interactive online learning, content development and
management and administrative support. The software and technologies
have been especially designed to meet the needs of China’s education
sector, including K-12, tertiary education and corporate training.
The platform readily supports features that promote learning, such
as video streaming, PPT and interactive testing functions.
In addition, smart memory curve technology and a number of detailed
reporting capabilities enable the educational content to be specifically
tailored to individual student needs.
Smart memory curve technology, for example, allows the computer
to track a student’s learning progress in a particular subject and
ascertain where further revision or support is needed. It then channels
the required content to the student, while at the same time minimizing
material which has already been mastered.
The detailed reporting capabilities promote a highly student-centric
learning environment. The reporting gives students, teachers and
parents the possibility of real-time feedback on learning performance,
both on a nominal and relative basis. This enables areas of weakness
to be quickly targeted for improvement.
Ambow's core technology lies in its i³-builder application
architecture. i³ stands for Information, Integration, and Infrastructure.
Based on J2EE, i³-builder allows for the rapid deployment of
highly reliable, scalable and stable Internet-based cross-platform
applications. i³-builder provides a full set of fundamental
functional modules including user management, organization management,
security management, information bus, application bus, portal engine,
workflow engine, full-text search engine, content management engine
and statistics form engine. Customized applications can be easily
developed, deployed and maintained by grouping the required modules.
i³-builder adopts the Model-View-Controller design pattern,
allowing the layering of the data, presentation and control modules,
thereby making the system more nimble, robust and manageable. The
adaptor between the data and control layers also allows for easy
integration with third party systems.
Ambow's education and training solutions leverage the Company's
internally developed enterprise software platform for delivering
online learning, managing digital content and enabling administrative
management. Based on an enterprise JAVA/J2EE open architecture and
international e-Learning standards, Ambow's technology delivers
a robust platform that is scalable, easy to use and can be readily
integrated into existing enterprise networks. Ambow's e-Learning
technology software products were designed and developed by its
Silicon Valley based engineering team in 2000 and implemented by
its China based R&D team between 2000 to 2002. The Company sold
its first software license in 2002 and has since acquired over 1,000
customers including K-12 school districts, universities, corporations
and government agencies. With the acquisition of Sida Training in
February 2005, the Company will be able to further leverage its
technology platform in order to offer many of Sida's traditional
classroom based training courses online.
The applications that make up Ambow's education platform include:
- Ambow Learning Management System
- Ambow School Administration Management System
- Ambow School-Online Platform
- Ambow e-Learning Portal
- Ambow School-District Education Application Platform
- Ambow Online Training Platform
Ambow Learning Management System. Ambow LMS allows education providers
to support a dynamic online teaching and learning environment for
distance learning or to supplement current classroom based teaching.
All teaching and learning is centered around courses. Tools are supplied
for teachers to easily create, edit and maintain courses online. The
platform also provides content management and content sorting capabilities
enabling teachers to post syllabi and course materials, provide online
testing and assessment, personalized tools for news, announcements,
email, interactive Q&A. The platform also integrates Ambow's virtual
classroom offering with real-time two-way communication of text, video,
audio and white board. The following diagram illustrates Ambow's LMS
application.
Ambow School Administration Management System. Provides school
administration management, instruction administration and virtual
classroom administration and provides ability to extend e-commerce
applications. Administrative functions include ability to designate
access parameters for all user groups such as administrators,
teachers, students, parents and guests, in addition to providing
security encryption of all information. The application also
integrates with other existing administrative systems.
Allows schools to create their own online schools for interactive
instruction, electronic whiteboard, file sharing and teacher/student
interaction. The online school provides the following benefits:
i) facilitates communication and collaboration among schools,
teachers, students and parents; ii) provides an extended after-school
teaching and learning environment; and iii) allows teaching
and learning to be conducted when students cannot attend schools
(e.g. during SARS, bad weather, etc.).
Personalized e-Learning portal delivered via the Online
School Platform that provides the ability to offer value added
education services to students and parents. Types of customized
services that could be offered through the portal include school
announcements, posting of academic records, classroom activity
notices, and message exchanges between students/parents and
teachers.
Ambow School-District Education Application Platform?. A powerful
technology and software platform that enables provincial/municipal
level online education, content sharing and administration management.
The platform supports an ASP business model, where by the school
districts can host services for its member schools and enable
schools to create and maintain their own online schools, conduct
school administration, content management and online communication
and collaboration through provincial/municipal education intranet
or Internet. This significantly enhances provincial/municipal
level content sharing and amortizes the costs across member
schools as individual schools do not need dedicated servers
and IT staff.
AOTP is a customized solution enabling companies to conduct online
training activities. Leveraging the technology advantages of Ambow's
education related solutions, the corporate training platform includes
the Learning Management System and tools for real-time teaching
and communicating
using text, video, audio and white board in addition to key administrative
functions.
