Ambow was established in China by Dr. Jin Huang, an overseas returnee who had spent more than ten years studying and working in Silicon Valley in the USA. Dr. Huang’s dream was to link the powers of technology and education to help advance China’s growth and prosperity. She brought back to China not only the know-how of Silicon Valley, but also its creative spirit. With her experience, drive and commitment to the principle of personalized education, Dr Huang launched Ambow in 2000.
2000
First to propose the establishment of China’s own e-learning education platform
Became the founding member of China’s National Information Technology Standardization Committee and a founding member of the National e-Learning Standards Committee
2001
Leading participant in the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) initiative to help China’s western provinces develop e-Learning capabilities
2002
Developed and implemented one of the first MOE-recognized e-Learning platforms in China that conformed to international standards
2003
First in China to be recognized by the MOE for developing and operating a city-wide education network linking schools together
2004
Established BNU/Ambow K-12 Education Service
Received a Zhongguancun (China’s Silicon Valley) excellence award for outstanding enterprise founded by an overseas returnee
2005
Launched BoPo English program and All-Subject Class for K-12 schools
First in China to establish the training program for IBM’s Software Engineer Advanced Career Education (SEACE)
IT Job-Readiness Training program recognized by the Science and Technology Center of MOE
2006
Launched IT Practical Training System Promotion Project
Established the BNU/Ambow Education Research Institute
Ambow’s E-Learning system endorsed as a priority project in China’s National 11th Five Year Plan
2007
Received the largest round of private placement (US$54 million) in the history of China’s education service sector
Established a cooperative partnership with Cisco and Adobe to develop IT talents
Developed and operated the Cisco Channel University of China (CCUC), offering on-line, off-line, and real-time learning options
Launched University Entrance Examination Preparation and After-School Tutoring
2008
Partnered with SkillSoft as its exclusive distributor of e-learning solutions and resources to Chinese enterprises and government markets
Launched Pre-University Skills Assessment Test campaign for high school students
Donated RMB 1 million to the Sichuan Earthquake and donated over RMB 10 million of education resources to schools in afflicted areas
Provided local support for the Stanford EPGY (Education Program for Gifted Youth) Program
